Introduction

Organisations are under constant pressure. To produce more and do better. To be sustainable, innovative and inclusive. To serve their customers 24/7, preferably as quickly as possible.

The pressure to meet those expectations rests on the shoulders of leaders, managers and their teams. On people. Who may thrive under a bit of pressure, but can become disillusioned, ill or ineffective under too much of it. This can hurt them and undermine the organisation.

There is an ongoing dilemma between pressure and rest, more and less, now and later, demanding and letting go. How should your organisation navigate this? And what should you do as an employee, manager or leader?

During this immersive day, we let go of policies and strategies, and purely focus on employees as the human beings they are.

First, we map out where and how people in your organisation experience pressure. Which responsibilities should belong to us and which shouldn’t? Which part of ourselves do we ignore or suppress, and where do we tolerate things that cost us energy?

Next, we learn about the three pillars of self-care and apply them to ourselves by developing a practical self-care plan. We explore what emotional health means, how we can fulfil our needs and how we can protect our personal and professional boundaries.

This day will not only teach your team members how to take better care of themselves, but also enable a constructive dialogue with a shared language around the health of the team as a whole.

Programme

TimeDescription
09:00 – 09:15
Introduction
We start with a personal introduction and discuss the purpose and structure of the day.
09:15 – 10:45
The pressure of work
We examine three ways in which our work burdens us psychologically. We discuss this, draw it and feel it in our bodies, so that we really understand what is happening to us. We share these insights and experiences, so that we can learn from each other and find recognition.
10:45 – 11:00
Break
11:00 – 12:30
Emotional health
We introduce the self-care plan and the first pillar of self-care, which is emotional health. We explore the form and function of emotions and how they are part of our work. We discuss and experience what happens when we are not free to express those emotions and how we can do that in a healthy way. We work on our self-care plan and formulate goals and actions that promote our emotional health.
12:30 – 13:30
Lunch
13:30 – 15:00
Fulfilled needs
Needs, desires and ambitions give energy and direction to our lives. We investigate which ones we have, how we suppress those needs and how that impacts us. We continue to work on our self-care plan and agree on goals and actions to ensure that we get what we need.
15:00 – 15:15
Break
15:15 – 16:45
Strong boundaries
We explore and experience our boundaries, where and when we have them, and how we know someone has crossed them. We make connections with the burden we identified earlier, our emotions and our needs. We finalise our self-care plan by committing to actions that strengthen our boundaries.
16:45 – 17:00
Conclusion
We summarize the day, share our experiences and say goodbye to each other.
